I just purchased a pool home that is utilizing a Hayward Northstar SP4020NS I have noticed that when the pump shuts off water briefly blows out of the strainer cover, like a pressure release. If the new pump produces greater flow rate than the old pump, it produces high pressure, and poor filtration, and can damage the cartridge. Hi Gail, overheating can be caused by the wrong wire size from breaker to motor, or loose wire connections, or over-voltage coming into motor, or lack of ventilation around the motor (mulch piled up, or big bushes close by, or placed in a box cover), but its can also be a fatal fault inside the motor. A leaking shaft seal should not cause your filter pressure to decrease. Step 2: Verify that you have enough straight pipe before where you have installed your flow switch. Going to try 2 hrs low and 6 high. Maybe a complete reboot at the circuit breaker could be the answer, or a reset on the pump control panel.
